Excessive thick saliva with mid-upper abdominal pain may be related to gastritis or gastroesophageal reflux (GERD), and alcohol can aggravate both conditions. Thick saliva may also occur due to dehydration, smoking, certain medications, or oral infections.
Next Steps
Seek urgent medical attention if the pain is severe or persistent, radiates to the back, is associated with repeated vomiting, black stools, blood in vomit, fever, or jaundice, as these may indicate pancreatitis, peptic ulcer complications
Health Tips
For now: • Avoid alcohol completely until symptoms resolve. • Stay well hydrated and eat small, regular meals. • Avoid spicy, oily foods, caffeine, and late-night meals.

hi, yes.you are right. excess alcohol consumption is a very common cause of both thick saliva in your mouth and sharp mid-stomach pain. alcohol induces gastritis, secretes more acid in stomach as well as saliva. acid secreted in stomach causes burning or sharp stomach pain. Alcohol also makes it easier for stomach acid to creep upward. When stomach acid reaches the back of your throat, your salivary glands go into overdrive to neutralize the acid. because of which u r experiencing thick salivation. as you now know the root cause, im sure you know what to do as well. stop or reduce alcohol intake. that will reverse all your current issues. continuation may lead to irreversible damage. take care

Excessive salivation (often called water brash) and mid-abdominal pain after heavy drinking are classic signs of alcohol-induced irritation of the digestive tract, such as gastritis or acid reflux. Immediate relief requires completely stopping alcohol and addressing symptoms with over-the-counter medications and bland foods. Do the following: Abstain from alcohol: Give your stomach lining time to heal by stopping alcohol consumption completely. Hydrate gently: Sip on water, clear broths, or electrolyte-rich drinks to rehydrate after excess intake. Eat bland foods: Stick to small, frequent meals of complex carbohydrates like plain toast, crackers, or bananas to stabilize blood sugar and reduce nausea. Over-The-Counter (OTC) Relief Antacids: Medications like Tums or Alka-Seltzer can quickly neutralize excess stomach acid and soothe irritation. Acid Reducers (H2 Blockers): Drugs like Pepcid (famotidine) can decrease the amount of acid your stomach produces. Proton Pump Inhibitors (PPIs): Medications like Prilosec (omeprazole) or Nexium can block acid production to promote healing. Note: Avoid taking NSAIDs (like aspirin, ibuprofen, or Naproxen) for the abdominal pain, as they further irritate the stomach lining. Use acetaminophen (Tylenol) sparingly, as it is processed by the liver. Mid-abdominal pain accompanied by excess saliva can sometimes signal more severe conditions, such as acute pancreatitis or stomach ulcers. Seek urgent medical care if you experience: Pain that is severe, sudden, or spreads to your back Repeated vomiting or an inability to keep fluids down Fever, weakness, or dizziness Vomit that looks like coffee grounds or bloody/tarry stools

Excess saliva with sharp stomach pain after heavy alcohol is classic gastritis — alcohol irritates the stomach lining and triggers both. Stop alcohol completely, take pantoprazole 40mg before breakfast daily for 2 weeks, eat light bland food. The saliva and pain should settle within a few days of stopping alcohol.
Next Steps
Consult me on Practo if pain is severe or doesn't improve in 3 days.

The above symptoms can be due to alcohol intake especially at night 1. GERD can present like this if u also have symptoms like water filling in ur mouth or sour burps 2. Gastritis can cause mid stomach ( epigastric ) pains also related to alcohol However if the pain is too severe associated with vomiting and binge alcohol — we do have to rule out acute pancreatitis , acute alcoholic hepatitis Kindly get imaging done if ur symptoms dont improve or if ur pain worsnes or u develop jaundice For now if u have mild symptoms u can take pantop 40 mg for 2 or 3 days
