Diabetes hba1c 6.3%

Hi, My diabetes has been elevated since last year. It was 6.5% twice in a row in August and November 2022. I am checking this blood work every 3 months since the beginning of 2022. It was normal before and elevated only after my chronic pain(3+ years jaw and neck pain) symptoms followed by weight gain with nerve medications. I have given metformin 500mg twice a day. So totally 2000mg per day. The value didn't decrease much and in the recent work, it came down to 6.3% 2 weeks ago. Prediabetic range now. Dr told me that if I am ok to try this rybelsus or wanna try insulin. I am not ok for insulin yet. I am obese  after trying several nerve medicines for my chronic pain. So my Dr said it will help me reduce weight and reduce diabetes. Is Rybelsus ok to take for Hba1c 6.3%? Do I need both metformin 2000mg and Rybelsus 7mg?

You are very fond of HbA1c. But you should be more worried about your Blood sugar F&PP and your Blood sugar levels after Breakfast , Lunch and Dinner. Then control of Blood sugar can be better achieved.

At present your hba1c is 6.3% which suggest a stage of pre diabetic which needs metformin as well as diet and exercise which will eventually help you in weight loss and better diabetic control as body stress will reduce.
