Dear Practo User, A cap or crown is required to strengthen the remaining tooth structure after Root Canal Treatment. Whether it is required or not depends upon the tooth structure remaining. Although it is not mandatory but yes it increases the life of tooth alot. Regards Dr Ankit Jain Arham Dental Care

Rc treated tooth should be capped asap esp if it is your back tooth. Rct without capping may get fail or tooth may fracture due to loss of moisture from the tooth due to root canal treatment.

Yes, Crown (Cap) is required after root canal treatment. Root canal treatment weakens the tooth structure as well as it makes tooth brittle because of lack of moisture content as the pulp is removed from the canals of tooth. So there are more chances of fracture of tooth. Cap should be placed after RCT for lifetime.

Yes definitely cap is required after rct of tooth as the blood supply of tooth is removed it looses all of its moisture and becomes brittle so go for cap

A cap or crown is mandatory after root canal treatment as this treatment makes the tooth brittle. Your dentist will advice you on various caps available and will suggest you one depending on your budget.  These days they come with a warranty card ( if made at a good lab)  so don't forget to ask your doctor about it.

Although every case of root canal treated tooth does not require a cap but in clinical practice, maximum number of patients who visit the clinic have their teeth damaged to such an extent that restoration with the cap is important to maintain the strength of the tooth structure..... once placed, it is meant to serve for a very long time and usually do not require removal unless damaged in any way..... Regards....

See its definite necessary to place a cap after root canal as tooth may prone to get fracture by uneven forces in chewing, and if it happens the motive of saving the tooth might not be satisfied, so go for good quality cap, ask your dentist for various caps available for you and choose the best one, thanks

After a root canal is done, the tooth looses its proprioception, that is, you do not realise the amount of pressure you're biting/using on that particular tooth since the pulp (nerve and blood vessels) have been removed and hence it is prone to fracture. Due to this reason a patient must get a root canal tooth capped if not immediately, within 2-3 months.. Have a biting fit day!

Ir the root canal is been done on molars and tooth is been considerably weakened to decay and during root canal treatment procedure then Yes it is must as tooth is weak and it becomes brittle as well after treatment. If no cap then tooth can fracture after few years and the whole purpose of doing root canal treatment to save the tooth inside mouth is not fulfulilled. If small portion of tooth is been destroyed then there are other options like inlays/onlays/ 3/4th crowns.can be done as well to save the remaining healthy tooth. Hope this helps.
