I had posted a question recently about my son who has been diagnosed with acute Osteomyelitis. We did the MRI scan and got the report. The findings of the report states that there is hyperintensity of the distal radial metadiaphysis with marrow edema of the epiphysis and distal dialysis.
The impression states that Marrow signal abnormality at distal metadiaphysis of radius with periosteal reaction and surrounding muscle edema.
However, the radiologist suggested tissue diagnosis to rule out less likely differential possibility of neoplastic lesion. The consulting doctor advised to get a biopsy done to be on the safer side. Need some guidance please. It looks like its much more serious than we thought. Please provide some insight.

It’s better to be informed then to remain in- conclusive. If someone has raised a suspicion about neoplasm then better to have a biopsy. It will serve two purpose: 1. It will decompress the bone involved by infection
2. More importantly it will give a chance to get a tissue for biopsy which will help in making correct diagnosis.
As a rule biopsy , should be done by the surgeon who is going to treat him finally.
