Hello, I'm an exam aspirant facing a severe nervous system collapse due to a trauma bond with a female friend. I was just prescribed Escitalopram & Desvenlafaxine by a psychiatrist for panic/somatic symptoms. I cannot afford paid therapy right now, so I need a specific, practical tool, not generic advice.
My core issues:
Cognitive Dissonance: I feel extreme, irrational "pity" and guilt towards her, keeping me mentally trapped.
The Trap: Absolute No Contact is impossible. She visits my house regularly and interacts with my family.
"Freeze" Response: When she is at my house, I freeze. I am terrified of getting close, but paralyzed by guilt to walk away. I surrender my boundaries.
Please give me a specific CBT technique/grounding exercise to:
A) Kill this irrational pity instantly.
B) Break my freeze response and maintain emotional neutrality (Grey Rock) when she is present.

Do visualisation exercise imagining she is cut off from your life and vanishes. More positive people come into your life.
Work on setting healthy boundaries and open and honest communication is suggested, let it be polite and respectful.
CBT could be thought stopping exercise, and re affirmative action with positive self talk that resonates with you.
You are emotionally attached to her , work on the visualisation exercise imagining, you ll feel freed.
Take care.

What you’re experiencing can feel very overwhelming. When anxiety, guilt, or perceived interpersonal threat becomes intense, the nervous system can temporarily interfere with our ability to act according to our intentions.
Try these brief CBT-based techniques in sequence:
》Stop & Notice: “I am freezing; this is an automatic stress response.”
》Ground: Press your feet into the floor, take a slow, longer exhale, and identify 3 things you can see around you.
》Choose: Ask yourself “What action is consistent with my boundary, even if I still feel guilty?”
You don't need to eliminate guilt or fear before setting a boundary. You can feel compassion and still maintain distance.
The goal is not to become emotionally numb or perfectly calm; it is to gradually build the ability to feel the emotion without letting it control your behaviour.
If the panic/somatic symptoms and freeze response are significantly affecting daily functioning or exam preparation, continuing with the psychiatrist and seeking psychological therapy with a clinical psychologist when feasible would be advisable.
I’m really sorry that you’re going through this right now. It sounds like this has been weighing on you and affecting you emotionally. Thank you for sharing it with me—it takes courage to talk about it.connect with psychologist to resolve inner conflicts
