You can start feeling the baby kicking somewhere between 18-22weeks in your first pregnancy. The second time, it occurs about 2 weeks earlier. Before this period, only an ultrasound scan can tell that the baby is fine. But relax and sit back, this is usually a low risk period and only 2 scans are usually needed (6weeks for heart beat and 12 weeks for NT- make sure that baby is normal).
