Regular Use of mouthwash is recommended mostly for the 2 weeks. Loss of taste sensation can be a manifestation of prolonged use of mouthwash. So its better you stop using it.
Next Steps
wait for 7-10 days for sensation to recover. if still you go no relief consult an oral pathologist.

Hello, Yes long term use of a mouthwash contaning chlorehexidine could alter the taste sensation. It would have been helpful if you had specified why your dentist had recommended for the usage of mouthwash. However since you have noticed this abnormality it would be wise to stop the usage of the mouthwash. Such a side effect with the mouthwash is not common however it could effect some people. Depending on the condition as to why the mouthwash was prescribed you can start with a warm saline gargle instead. After you stop the usage the taste sensation will eventually return to normal with time. Yes as u mentioned with age taste sensation does alter or reduce.
Next Steps
stopage of mouthwash

If this issue started after the mouthwash, discontinue the mouthwash for a few weeks and see how you feel. Loss of taste sensation can occur due to common viral infections, fevers etc or due to any other medication you might have taken. Wait for a few weeks. If it persists consult your dentist or a physician
