2nd pregnancy
My partner is 6 weeks pregnant and has pre-existing diabetes, with a recent HbA1c level of 9.2%. This is her second pregnancy, and her first delivery was only 5 months ago. Given her high blood sugar levels and the short gap between pregnancies, we are concerned about the potential risks to both her health and the baby’s development. We would appreciate medical guidance on the safest next steps and the available options.

A high hba1c report and the short gap between pregnancy do increase the risk in both mother and child. Please connect for a consultation

A HbA1c of 9.2% this early in pregnancy raises the risk of miscarriage and birth defects, since the baby's organs are forming in these first weeks. Having conceived again just 5 months after your last delivery also raises the chance of preterm birth and a smaller baby, since your body hasn't fully recovered yet.
Next Steps
Please see a high-risk pregnancy specialist and a diabetologist together this week, so your blood sugar can be brought under tight control as early as possible. An early dating scan will also confirm how the pregnancy is progressing.
Health Tips
Go in sooner if you notice very high or very low sugar readings, persistent vomiting, or any bleeding.
