23 day old baby sleeps less in day
Hi My baby, 23 days old sleeps less in days max 4-5 hours and 4-5hours at night . His current weight is 3.3kg with clothes. I am concern about his weight as at the time of discharge his weight was 3kg. Plz let me know what should I do to make him sleep more and gain weight. I am breastfeeding him and have doubt if he is getting enough for his diet or not.

Breast feeding requires that when you feed the child , let him feed on one breast for 20 mins plus Foremilk is rich in water and sugars , but hindmilk is rich in fats and vitamins. So it's necessary that your baby feeds both. In the next feed offer the other breast. Make sure your child is adequately covered , not too hot , nor too cold. Ambient room temperature of 24-26 centigrade is good. Avoid fans . This will keep him thermostable. Go for regular checkups at time of immunization and during illness. If baby is otherwise playful and not dull or irritable , this should improve his weight. However it would be best to get a clinic appointment and discuss the issues in person with a pediatrician.

dear parents , according to me hold the baby in one arm keeping his head at elbow joint and the buttocks in the palm of same arm and feed the baby for 15to20minutes. hold the outer palm of baby in between the thumb and index finger and press the palm when ever baby sleep or stop feeding. after feeding put the baby on left shoulder and pat just behind stomach level for 5mintues to burpe on back of the baby. baby burp 3to5times. after burping lay down the baby onright side of the baby putting a pillow below head maintaining that head is above level of stomach . don't feed baby in lap. don't pat over shoulder don't use wipes. feed baby from one breast at a time drink lots of water before breastfeeding and during breast feeding exclusive breast feeding till 6th month of age

For the first 10 days, baby loses 10 percentage of weigt, after that child should gain 30 grams per day . Your child's weight is same as the birth weight on day 23. It's not normal. Feeding looks inadequate. I would recommend to give your child measured feeds 45 ml 2 hrly. You can express your milk through Breast pump and give the milk.If there are other queries, you can directly consult with me via this link on practo https://www.practo.com/mumbai/doctor/aditi-birje-pediatrician Thank you Dr Aditi Birje MD PEDIATRICS KEM HOSPITAL MUMBAI SHREE GURUMAAULI PEDIATRIC CLINIC YOGI NAGAR BORIVALI WEST MUMBAI
