I have a 19 month old boy. Something caught my attention at 15 months that he had a poor eye contact & not responding to name. So before jumping into conclusion I started home practice of both the things reducing screen time to max 1 hour a day. That helped a lot & definitely both things improved but till date there is no speech. Though he started imitating gestures, started pointing to 5 body parts. Place we stay there is no park where we can take our child for interaction but he plays with his father, grandmother & our maids, security.
He started telling his needs through gestures or sounds or cry.
Should this be considered as speech delay , language delay or any spectrum disorder.
Nearby there is no neurological Pediatrics so please help !

It's natural for parents to worry about their children's milestones. However, it's important to consult with a professional to get a proper evaluation rather than jumping to conclusions based on online information. I'd recommend jotting down all your concerns and scheduling an appointment with a paediatrician. They can provide you with a clearer understanding of your son's development and whether there's any cause for concern regarding speech delay, language delay, or any spectrum disorder.
In the meantime, continue engaging with your son through play and interactive activities, as you've been doing. This will not only help in his overall development but also in building a stronger bond between you two. Remember, every child is unique and develops at their own pace. All the best!
Hey Thank you for sharing! I do understand your concern for your child! Please book an appointment with Neonatologists or Pediatrician, as somewhere you are observing red flag on development milestone in child. Also you can request them to refer psychological testing to check on child's social quotient.
I am of the opinion that your worries about your child's language / speech development are a bit premature. I would suggest you to take up your concerns with your child's paediatrician who will be in a much better position to tell you if there are reasons for you to worry. If the paediatrician feels that there is a requirement of assessing his speech development, you may consult a speech therapist for that. On your worries about any spectrum disorder (autism?) you may undertake an autism assessment test through a good clinical psychologist. I think it is possible even online. While all these will give you a fair feel of your son's mental condition, I would still say not to get into any kind of labelling of it yet. Let the paediatrician come out with a relevant assessment report, even verbally. In the meantime, if possible, try to reduce his screen time further and involve him in the day-to-day activities at home in an age-appropriate way. When he gets involved in what is happening around, it is likely that he will pick up speech faster.
