My dad who is 82 years old, a lifelong smoker was losing weight day by day. He was referred to Dr. Sanjai. N, pulmonologist at the Manipal Hospital Yelahanka. Before the doctor could come to a diagnosis, my dad’s condition became very critical and was admitted in the hospital. The doctor found out that he had fluid in both his lungs to the extent of ~2 liters! Given his lifelong smoking history, several age related complications and his current condition he had to undergo tests for lung cancer and tuberculosis. My dad was and continues to be the most difficult patient there can be. My sister and I were clueless of what we could do and if we could save our dad at all. Dr. Sanjai suffered along with us the torment our dad put us through during the course of the diagnosis and treatment. A few months into the treatment under Dr. Sanjai, my dad’s fluid levels are down from ~2 liters to 30 cc! He was diagnosed of Pleural effusion TB.
