Dr Vijay KR Rao is Consultant Rheumatologist at Divisha Arthritis and Medical Center and Manipal Hospitals, Bangalore, India. Dr Rao studied medicine at Bangalore Medical College. He then underwent specialist training Internal Medicine in West Midlands, UK and obtained his MRCP (UK), General Medicine qualification. He further underwent super specialist training in Rheumatology in some of the reputed centers in the UK and obtained MRCP (UK) Rheumatology qualification. He also did a fellowship in SLE and Rheumatic diseases in pregnancy at the prestigious Lupus UK Center of Excellence, Birmingham under the mentorship of Professor Caroline Gordon. He was awarded the prestigious FRCP degree from the Royal College of Physicians in Edinburgh Scotland UK in 2016. He has worked as a consultant rheumatologist in the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham, UK before taking up his current position at Manipal Hospitals.Dr Vijay KR Rao’s research interests include lupus, connective tissue disease and the management of rheumatic diseases in pregnancy and he has authored numerous articles and textbook chapters on these topics.He has been an invited speaker at several national and international rheumatology meetings and is a sub-investigator for several trials of therapies for lupus and inflammatory arthritis.He is Assistant Editor for the Indian Journal of Rheumatology and is a member of the Indian Rheumatology Association, and the British Society of Rheumatology.He is also an examiner for MRCP exams held in India.
