A polysomnography is recommended for people who present with signs and symptoms of moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnoea (where the breathing repeatedly stops and starts during sleep). It is also recommended to evaluate other sleep disorders like narcolepsy, periodic limb movement disorder, insomnia and unusual behaviours during sleep such as sleepwalking.

5. What does a polysomnography measure?

A polysomnography measures blood oxygen levels, heart rate, breathing pattern and records brain waves as well. Eye and leg movements are also recorded during the study.
