Epidermolysis Bullosa Simplex

Frozen sections of patient's skin are stained with monoclonal antibodies against type IV collagen,

type VII collagen, K14 and Laminin 332 proteins. There is subepidermal split in the section

studied. Staining of type IV collagen, type VII collagen and Laminin 332 are seen on the dermal

side of the split, intensity of which are comparable to the normal human skin which is used as a

control. There is clumping of K14 staining. These features raise the possibility of Epidermolysis

bullosa simplex.

Further testing in the form of mutation analysis is advised.
