Dr. Neeti Kalra replied
When any patient with dental pain visits our clinic, he is first diagnosed for the problem and then thoroughly explained about the treatment plan along with the expense and the duration for the treatment. Any patient who is afraid or frightened is made to feel easy and comfortable. Also, the patient is given appropriate medicine for giving him/ her immediate relief. The patient is given complete choice to decide on the course of action and he/ she is free to start the treatment or come back again anytime later. The same was done for your friend too. She was diagnosed properly, an X-Ray was taken and the entire treatment plan, duration and cost was discussed with her. She was asked to take a simple pain killer to relive her of her pain.
To your point that she was only given a pain killer, would you rather be prescribed unnecessary medicines (e.g. strong antibiotics, multivitamins, special toothpastes, etc.) when an effective painkiller itself can do the job? Ethical practice is my personal commitment to my patients.
Additionally, the clinic is equipped with latest digital radio visual graph (RVG) for X-rays. The RVG takes a digital X-Ray, and no physical film is used at all. RVG is a much sophisticated and expensive machinery, where patient has much lesser exposure time to X-rays. The older film based X-rays have much larger X-ray exposure time for patients. For a RVG, the digital image can be emailed or whatsapped or you can simple take a photo of the digital image. There is no physical film, so the question of a hard copy of the X-ray does not arise. For your friend, she was told the same. For her, prompt and instant action was done by taking image of the same in her phone.
To sum up, the detailed treatment plan was discussed, no extra medicine was prescribed, the frightened patient was soothed and made to feel easy, picture of her digital x-ray was given immediately and happily. And this was just a consultation, with no procedure done, as per the choice of the patient. Please let us know what more was expected out of a consultation to the Doctor. We shall be happy to support you further
