There are no disadvantages if extraction is done in correct way by a good doctor. After surgery there will be just a small swelling for a day or 2 eventually it will subside by itself. Slight pain which will be manageable by pain killers. So go for it don't worry if a doctor has advised removal there may not be any other option to save it.
So don't worry.
