Why only glucose is used to identify the cancer in PET SCAN. Does it mean that cancer cells live on glucose.And not on any energy souces like ketones and protiens.

Cancer cells like many other cells preferentially use glucose for their energy, because they need it's byproducts for cell division as well. This is known as Warburg effect, and is the basis for its use in PET CT. But even ketones and proteins in diet are converted to glucose in body, if need for energy arises
