Hello You can start giving roti now, but make it soft and easy to chew/swallow. Tear into small pieces and soak in dal, milk, curd, or vegetable gravy to soften it. Avoid giving dry, hard roti as baby might gag or choke. Offer 1–2 small pieces at a time and observe chewing and swallowing. Make sure the baby is sitting upright while eating. Give only plain roti initially, avoid salt, ghee, or masalas. Gradually offer stuffed or mixed rotis (e.g., dal roti, soft veg paratha) as baby tolerates.
Next Steps
At 8 months, move from purees to mashed, soft solids, and small finger foods. Roti helps baby learn to chew and builds oral skills. Continue breastfeeding on demand along with complementary feeding.
Health Tips
Avoid: Whole nuts, hard chunks (choking risk) Salty, sugary, spicy or oily food Honey (risk of botulism) Cow’s milk as a main drink (until 1 year)
