Waking up daily in the night
Doc, My baby(17 months) has been waking up (almost every night) couple of times with loud burst of inconsolable crying. Sometimes we pacify her with milk but most of the times she use to cry for more than an hour before sleeping again. While she cries we do everything to pacify her like patting, offering her water or milk, but most of the time we fail to stop the cry. It happens again after some hours of sleep. In daytime she does not have such problems and very cheerful. She is 17 months old now but she has been doing this since 8-9 months. We fail to understand what is troubling her. Is it stomach ache (can't happen daily), is she feeling hunger(but she denies milk most of time), some bad dreams(but then why cries for hours). Please help us.

At this age it is mostly due to nightmares or night terrors. Teething or colic could be another cause. Kindly discuss this with your pediatrician who may suggest some coping mechanisms
