This question regarding VP shunting can be better answered by a neurosurgeon who actually performs the surgery of VP shunting. VP shunting is basically done to reduce the pressure inside the closed vault ( brain ) inorder to reduce the pressure upon nerve cells in brain and allow normal growth of brain tissue. Hence it is definitive management for reliving hydrocephalus.
