Infant hydrocephalus

Asked for Female, 31 Years

I have a four week old Boy who has been diagnosed with hydrocephalus. On one side of the brain the fluid is 18 mm on the Other side it is normal. He had normal head shape and size, and There is no sign that the hydrocephalus is affecting him. The size of the fluid has been stable last six weeks. They monitored him Also before he was born. The doctors suggest an operation to drain the fluid. But why,? When he is not affected and it is not increasing?

You have to congratulate the doctor who found hydrocephalus at early stages, bcos when progressed to later stage , the fluid accumulation will compress the brain structures and gradually size of the skull increases over few months, this is right time to get surgery done to prevent any further complications.
