Unwanted Pregnancy
Hello, Doctor. I'm 18 and my girlfriend is 17, and we're both students. We are aware of the risks of unprotected sexual activity, and have both stayed virgins. However, on October 25th, 26th and 27th, we engaged in foreplay (no genital contact). Her period before that started on October 20th, ending on October 24th. Her next period is late (Her cycle is usually 32 days). She hasn't shown early pregnancy symptoms. A home pregnancy test (Piramal Healthcare I-Can) on the 30th this month turned up negative. She didn't take the test with her morning urine, but the sample she used was concentrated. I did not ejaculate on any of the three occasions, and took care not to get any pre-ejaculate near her. My questions are: 1. Is it possible that she is pregnant? 2. If it is, then how do we handle such an unwanted pregnancy? I am ready to inform her mother and take responsibility for my rash actions if the need arises. I also know that she had egg white cervical mucous from 8th to 13th November.

Hello there.  I can understand your concern.  First of all you need to understand that the phase immediately after periods is her most infertile phase. I feel she is not pregnant at all going by what history you have given. I would suggest you ask her to take a pregnancy test again and just wait. Whatever the result, consult a gynaecologist in person for further evaluation and management. Best regards. Dr. Anil kumar jain. Bangalore.
