Hi Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome is a common problem in young women today. Changing lifestyle,  stress, poor eating and exercise habits and obesity add to the problem.  In PCOS the skin is sensitive to the androgenic hormones released by the ovaries.  So treatment of the thick hair becomes difficult.  Laser hair reduction LHR is the gold standard treatment.  However do remember your sister may need more number of sessions than someone with normal hormone.  The goal of LHR in PCOS is increasing the duration between session  (hair free interval) and decreasing the thickness and density of hairs. Please check if any of these are happening then the hair is responding to LHR.  If not check with the doctor if an increase or adjustment  in laser settings is possible.  Please remember that lifestyle change in weight reduction and exercise is very important.  The dermatologist may also  refer to an endocrinologist for an expert opinion if oral anti androgen medicines are required. Best regards DR Rasya Dixit
