Tsh 7.5, facing severe hair fall
Hello doctor
I'm a 34yr old woman. I got my blood test done randomly, and my TSH came out 7.5.. vitamin d was 5.8..I consulted a doctor.. she gave me vitamin d shots oral 60,000 for 5 days and then once per month. She also gave eltroxin 50mg.
It's been 2 months that I'm following this dose.. but now I'm facing a severe hair fall from last 10-15 days. Please let me know if i need to lower my eltroxin dose. Thank you

Please do not reduce the thyroid medication dose on your own â the hair fall you are experiencing at 2 months into treatment is actually a very well-known and expected phenomenon called Telogen Effluvium. When hypothyroidism is present, hair follicles go into a 'paused' state. When the thyroid hormone is corrected with medication, these paused follicles wake up and go through their natural cycle â which includes a shedding phase first. So the hair fall is actually a sign that the treatment is working, not a sign of the dose being too high. This temporary shedding typically peaks around 6-10 weeks into treatment and then gradually improves over the next 3-4 months. Additionally, your Vitamin D of 5.8 was critically low (normal is above 30), and severe Vitamin D deficiency is itself a major cause of hair fall â your ongoing supplementation should help with this as well.
Next Steps

You should not alter your dose ,with out further evaluating your TSH level,and for hair fall issues ,for now start taking protein rich diet ,what does your hemoglobin count look like? Need to further evaluate your other profile,if you feel like,can consult me further

You need to alter your dose. Its rainy season rate of hairfall increase, also it depends on hair cycle. Hair cycle is process of 3months....wait and watch. Consume balanced diet. Follow haircare routine maintain scalp cleaniness
