Dentist earlier said it will be full zirconia made cap. Today he said to increase the strength he will add some metal base to it. Is it true? I mean do zirconia cap require some sort of metal also?

zirconia does not need any metal base as it is fully ceramic. Porcelain fused metal (PFM) crowns has metal base. he might be suggesting that for strength reason and to distribute mastication forces so that tooth doesn't fracture.

Your dentist may be referring to ceramic. Areas with high pressure or bite may require metal fused to porcelain as zirconia may not be suitable in some cases. However zirconia is not fused with metal
