Many people have white patches on the tongue. It may be due to normal variations of tongue mucosa or due to plaque and debris accumulation over a long period of time. You can brush your tongue with your soft toothbrush gently and see whether the patches go away. You also take opinion from an oral pathologist to rule out the possibility of any mucocutaneous lesion like lichen planus.
