Thyroi during pregnancy
My wife is 12 weeks pregnant and gynecologist requested a thyroid test. The aTPO test was done. The anti thyroid peroxidase reading is 908 U/ml. What is the significance of this result? Should we worry about the health of mother and child? Kindly advise on further steps.

TPO antibodies suggest autoimmunity . In pregnancy TSH should be kept below 2.5. Thyroid hormones are necessary for the brain development of child. If optimum level is not maintained then there is a possibility of mental disabilities in child. Kindly consult any diabetologist or endocrinologist with investigations for further details.
