Causes of bad breath include food, tobacco products, poor dental hygiene resulting in accumulation of plaque and tartar, health problems, dry mouth, oral infections, dental cavities, or medications etc. One of the most common signs and symptoms of tonsil stones is bad breath. Mouthwash may temporarily mask bad breath, but it may not treat the underlying cause.
Next Steps
Visit the dentist for definite cause of bad breath and its treatment.
Health Tips
Brush and floss teeth regularly. Remember to brush the tongue. Keep the mouth moist by drinking water and chewing sugarless gum. Quit smoking or chewing tobacco.

Most often bad breath happens due to the presence of plaque or calculus between the teeth and gum. Scaling and teeth polishing can remove those plaques and calculus and then followed by the usage of appropriate amount of chlorhexidine 0.2% mouthwash. This will eliminate bad breath. Even if the complaint still persists, then we have to check for any caries in the tooth or get a review from the ENT.
