Is there any test for depression patients to determine whether they are suffering from depression or not based on levels of hormones like serotonin? If yes can there be a hormonal assay for it as well that can indicate the presence of illness and the need for cure?

There are no lab tests to diagnose depression as such.
Altough psychiatrist might order some tests for hormones in some cases to rule out medical illnesses which might mimic or lead to depression.
