Taking 2 year old baby to high altitude
Is it advisable to take a 2 year old baby boy to high altitude like above 4500 metres above sea level? Is it advisable? If it is possible, are there any precautions to be taken?

Hello It’s not advisable. High altitudes above 3000 meters pose a risk for Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) even in adults — the risk is higher in children under 5 years. At >4500 meters, oxygen levels are significantly lower. Young children have immature respiratory and cardiovascular systems, making them more prone to: Hypoxia, Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS), Feeding difficulties, irritability, and sleep issues, In rare cases, life-threatening complications AMS symptoms include: Irritability or unusual sleepiness Poor appetite or vomiting Fast breathing or breathlessness Pale or bluish lips/skin Refusal to walk or play normally
Next Steps
If travel is essential, Ascend very gradually (max 300–500m/day above 3000m). Spend 2–3 days acclimatizing at lower altitude before going higher. Ensure good hydration, warmth, and monitor closely for symptoms.
Health Tips
Have access to medical care or evacuation support. Immediate descent is the only effective treatment for AMS if symptoms develop.

I assume the distance is in feet. High altitude sickness can come at 2400 meters. It is not advisable to expose a 2 year old to such sudden changes in altitude conditions. Normally there are training sessions for adults to get acclimatised to such drastic conditions - oxygen levels are low. Access to health care facilities too will be difficult for children in these areas
