The Faucial Tonsils have no function in your body after the 5th birthday, as your bone marrow, spleen, and thymus glands become fully functional by then. However, instead of totally removing the Tonsils, debulking them using LASERs or Coblation Wands (Tonsillotomy) are a far better option as they serve 2 purposes. The sensory nerves of the tonsillar bed are not exposed, hence post-operative pain will be substantially less and recovery much more rapid. Secondly, the Tonsil remnants are usually just sterile coagulated tissues which provide a much needed scaffolding to the soft palate, which prevents snoring that is usually seen in Tonsillectomised patients later on.
Next Steps
Discuss these options with your ENT Surgeon. Alternatively, you are welcome to come down to Bangalore where I will personally operate in your daughter and resolve this problem once & for all.
