If a 4-month-old baby accidentally swallows some water during bathing, here's what you should do and watch for: Immediate Steps: Stay calm – A small amount of water swallowed during bathing is usually not dangerous. Observe the baby for any signs of distress: Coughing or gagging Difficulty breathing Wheezing or noisy breathing Bluish lips or face (cyanosis) Burp and comfort the baby – Sometimes coughing after swallowing water helps clear the airway. Watch for signs of concern over the next 24–48 hours Persistent cough Fast or labored breathing Fever Lethargy or unusual sleepiness Refusal to feed When to see a doctor: If the baby shows any of the warning signs listed above If your baby is active, feeding well, and has no signs of distress, there is likely no need to worry.
