Hi you have not mentioned hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism...since you have mentioned weight loss I guess it's hyperthyroidism...this advice will be regarding hyperthyroidism... If you've lost a great deal of weight or experienced muscle wasting, you may benefit from adding extra calories and protein to your diet. Your doctor or a dietitian can help you with meal planning. In most cases, you won't need to continue supplementing your diet once your hyperthyroidism is under control. Treatment for hyperthyroidism can also eventually contribute to excessive weight gain. It is important to learn how to get as much nutrition as possible from your food without eating a lot of extra calories. In addition, eating the correct amount of sodium and calcium are important dietary considerations for people with hyperthyroidism....it can also be due to side effects of treatment of hypothyroidism...if that is the case then fallow Generally, there's no hypothyroidism diet. Although claims about hypothyroidism diets abound, there's no evidence that eating or avoiding certain foods will improve thyroid function in people with hypothyroidism. If you have hypothyroidism, take thyroid hormone replacement as directed by your doctor — generally with an empty stomach. It's also important to note that too much dietary fiber can impair the absorption of synthetic thyroid hormone. Certain foods, supplements and medications can have the same effect. Walnuts...Soybean flour...Cottonseed ...mealIron supplements or multivitamins containing iron...Calcium supplements...Antacids that contain aluminum or magnesium...Some ulcer medications, such as sucralfate Some cholesterol-lowering drugs, such as those containing cholestyramine and colestipol To avoid potential interactions, eat these foods or use these products several hours before or after you take your thyroid medication. consult your doctor if have any doubts they will help you regards
