Going by the verbal description that you have mentioned and without a look at the clinical condition of the tooth right now, the only rational suggestion would be to go for the extraction of the truth because once the Gum and bone support of the tooth is Irreversibly damaged, it is difficult to restore it back to stability. But the final opinion would rest with the dentist who performs a clinical examination to evaluate whether the cause of mobility is Periapical infection in which case root canal treatment can be done to save the tooth. But one thing is for sure---you should not delay your visit to the dentist because there is infection in and around the tooth which needs to be treated objectively as soon as possible before the symptoms aggravate further.
