Why steroids are used in medical treatment, asking because covid patients are given steroids, it suppresses the immune, then why this thing is used in treatment?

Patients with severe COVID-19 can develop a systemic inflammatory response that can lead to lung injury and multisystem organ dysfunction. It has been proposed that the potent anti-inflammatory effects of corticosteroids might prevent or mitigate these deleterious effects.
Drs anticipate cytokine storm in covid patients (not everyone, but comorbid , higher risk group people ) . To sustain that effects in 2nd week of covid infection, we start steroids.

For the management of Covid we have to first stop the inflammation ie the inflammatory process occurring in the lungs. That’s the main reason to start steroids.
Immune suppression is generally a long term complication of excessive use of steroids.
