Spine injury for pet dog
My dog had a dog fight and got injured. He has a deep bite at inner part of back right leg. We've been treating him with antibiotics and painkillers for the external wounds. But, he's unable to stand on this back legs. So, we've done x-ray of his spine for any pelvic fracture of spine disturbances. My vet has diagnosed that last bone of vertibral column has been disturbed and needs a spportive surgery to reduce the depression which can lead to paralysis of hind legs. My dog has perfect left leg with out any numbness and righ leg has numbness from the lower part of knee till the paw. I've taken second opininon of very experience vet in Hyderabad, he is suggesting not to go for any surgery and let it heal as the dog is very young(4 months old) and suggested medicine for the numbeness and asked me to lift his tail and make him walk and build confidence in him. I'm confused and worried about my little companion. Kindly provide any expert advise. It would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

See without seeing the x-rays it is difficult to judge the extent of injury but usually pups of young age hv faster healing so you can avoid surgery and rely on medications and apart from lifting his tail you can also put a towel underneath his belly and pull it upwards to help him in walking but don't do it for more than 20-30 secs if he feels pain. Or you can search for dog wheelchairs which are really helpful in cases of partial paralysis. Regards, Dr. Prachi Kshatriya

I think it's better have conservative medicinal therapy without surgery. As he is pup only he can improve with that only.
