In depression it's not advisable to remain physically inactive. Behavioural activation is a therapy used in the treatment of depression because in depression there is no interest in daily activities and the more one remains inactive, the more uninterested a person becomes. Furthermore screen time more than what's allowed is addictive. When there is internet addiction, there is more guilt associated with it, so there is an increase in depressive symptoms and feelings of emptiness. Kindly consult for the evaluation of the presence of internet addiction and treatment.

Like anything in life, use of screen time in moderation is a good idea. When used in excess as means of relaxation to get away from unhelpful thoughts and emotions, screen time can be addicting as it gives us an immediate dopamine release. Dopamine is the reward Neuro chemical our brain releases and it makes us happy temporarily. Unfortunately this leads to wanting more and more to get the same effect, thereby taking away time and energy from dealing with the emotions more helpfully. This also means you will slowly prefer isolating yourself, feel more scared to deal with people, emotions or any other thing in the longer run. As you can see, this will worsen any pre-existing mood symptoms. If you wish to address this problem with a longer term in mind, please substitute screen time with healthier lifestyle choices like eating healthier, exercising, meditating and/or talking to friends or people who can help you. It also a good idea to see a professional psychologist or psychiatrist sooner rather than later to have better & longer results

While smartphones can be helpful for certain activities and provide entertainment, excessive use of smartphones, especially during times of depression, may have some negative effects. Here are a few reasons why you might want to limit your smartphone usage: Social media and comparison: Social media platforms can often portray an idealized version of people's lives, which may lead to feelings of inadequacy or low self-esteem, particularly when you're already struggling with depression. Isolation and decreased physical activity: Excessive smartphone use can lead to isolating oneself from real-life social interactions and physical activities, which are important for overall well-being. Connecting with others and engaging in physical exercise can have a positive impact on mood and mental health. Sleep disturbances: The blue light emitted by smartphones can interfere with your sleep patterns. Poor sleep quality or insomnia can worsen symptoms of depression and make it more difficult to cope with daily challenges.
