Pimples are common at this age madam. Hormonal changes start making the oil glands swell up and sometimes get blocked leading to acne. Some acne can get infected. Treatment of acne varies a lot. It depends on the grade of acne he has (grade 1 to 4). Associated problems like dandruff or infected acne. Ability to adhere to medications. Response to treatment of individual patients. Time frame in which results are expected. Whether he has associated pigmentation. Oiliness of the skin. Side effects of the medicines etc etc. Treatment can be in the form of only creams/gels (topical), tablets(to reduce oil activity and antibiotics if needed) and procedures (chemical peels, IPL). It usually takes about 3 months to clear up. But it will need follow up visits from time to time to prevent recurrence. Warm regards. Dr. Rajdeep Mysore. Chirag Hospital Bangalore
