Sibling rivalry and lack of seriousness

I feel my elder daughter is not serious towards studies, and getting good grades. I want to have the right balance towards managing this issue, without being too overbearing with her or giving up. She is otherwise a very balanced person ( at least I feel so, but sometimes quirky), and shirks hard work.
