Balloon valvuloplasty is recommended for a pliable valve, not calcified one. Your echo report says the valve is calcified, hence balloon procedure is not a best one for you, however doctor recommending any procedure has to assess real images of echo.

The option of surgery vs BMV(Balloon Mitral Valvuloplasty) depnds on the suitability of the valve for balloon therapy. Your doctor might have advised surgery probably because of unsuitable valve for balloon therapy. One has to do the echo in person to say which is better.
