Severe headaches once a month
I get a very bad headache at the back of my head at least once a month at night. It gets bad when I try to lie down or sit. When I stand up or walk, the pain reduces. It stays for at least 4-5 hours and is almost unbearable when lying down. I don't know what the problem is or what causes these random headaches. The pain is severe at the back of my head. I'm not sure what doctor to see and what scans to do. Is an MRI helpful? Please advice.

Is the headache only at night time and have you been awaken by pain ? Also any associated vomiting or blurred vision along with the headache? If the headaches are severe with clear relation to your posture and becoming frequent, it will be advisable to get an MRI brain.
