My 5 year old son has been crying over almost everything since 2 weeks. This is observed for e.g.
When one of his friends touched his toy, he is crying.. For very petty reasons he is crying which is generally not his personality
He seems fine when he is in school as discussed with his teacher

This sudden change in behavior usually occurs in response to a traumatic experience,be patient and understanding and try to elicit the cause.
It could be minor,but as even you may be aware,these days,a lot can happen with small children.
