Schizophernia treatment

Asked for Female, 52 Years

Hi, My mother is suffering from schizophernia/Brief Psychlosys what psyachatrist have told them ..from past 1 month she is on antipsychotic medication and sleeping around 15 hours and listening noice whenever she is awake??? Is this the way anti psychotic drugs work and how long this desease take to cure.

Antipsychotics start working in a week but takes atleast 3-4 weeks for its full effects. Sedation is the side effects of the drug. You can consult your Psychiatrist to get it changed with non sedative/less sedative antipsychotics.
