Regarding pet birds
Im planning on getting 2 cockatiel chicks which are 18 days old. I have history of allergy to dust. Im aware cockatiels are very dusty birds. But I'm told a lot about Bird fancier's lung and other respiratory issues. How frequent are those infections in people having just 1 or 2 birds ? And can any precautions be taken so as to not to develop any allergies or infections ?

If u want to keep birds as pets than there would be dust and other allergens u might get affected from. Keeping them is a big responsibility from cleaning to feeding them. But if u really are interested u can always keep them in a separate room with good ventilation and always wear mask while handling them and wash hands.

If you are allergic to dust, then having a bird close to you is not advisable. As far as the chances of infection from the bird, it is not common with well maintained birds. If you really want to have birds, then you can keep them in different rooms, which has good ventilation and avoid direct close contacts with the bird poop and cage.

The best treatment and management for allergies is to stay away from allergens as much as possible. Not having these birds is my advice.
Next Steps
If you really want to keep them anyway, draw a line between you and your pet birds to get minimum exposure to the allergens.
Health Tips
Keep them in a separate area, use gloves, masks, goggles, full sleeves clothes while handling. Proper ventilation in the room adds comfort to you as well as your pet.
