Dear Practo User,
PDE5 inhibitors such as tadalafil help improve blood flow to the penis and support achieving and maintaining an erection in response to sexual stimulation. They do not usually cause a continuous uncontrolled erection in most healthy individuals when taken in the prescribed dose.
In the majority of cases, after ejaculation the penis gradually returns to the flaccid state as normal, although some men may notice that erections can recur more easily for some time because the medication remains active in the body.
Priapism (a prolonged painful erection lasting more than 4 hours) is a very rare side effect when these medicines are used correctly under medical supervision. The risk is higher in cases of overdose, recreational misuse, mixing with certain drugs, or underlying blood disorders.
To use these medicines safely:
• Take only the prescribed dose
• Avoid combining with nitrates or recreational drugs
• Do not panic if the erection lasts slightly longer than usual after intercourse
• Seek emergency medical help only if erection becomes painful or persists beyond 4 hours
Your concern is understandable, but when used responsibly and after proper evaluation, tadalafil is generally considered safe and effective for most patients.

PDE5 inhibitors such as Tadalafil are commonly prescribed for erectile dysfunction and are generally considered safe when taken in the correct dosage under medical supervision. These medicines do not cause a continuous automatic erection. They only help improve blood flow to the penis during sexual stimulation. In most men, after ejaculation, the penis gradually returns to its normal flaccid state just as it naturally would. Priapism, which is a prolonged and painful erection lasting more than 4 hours, is a very rare side effect and is uncommon when the medicine is used responsibly and in the prescribed dose. Mild continuation of firmness for a short period after intercourse can happen in some individuals, but this is usually temporary and not dangerous.
Next Steps
Your concern about priapism is understandable, but there is no need for unnecessary fear if the medication is being used properly and under professional guidance. It is important to avoid self-medication, excessive dosing, or combining such medicines with unverified sexual enhancement products. Health Tips
Maintaining good cardiovascular health, regular exercise, proper sleep, stress management, and avoiding smoking or excessive alcohol can naturally support healthy erectile function. Anxiety and fear related to sexual performance can sometimes affect erections more than physical causes themselves. Staying relaxed, informed, and maintaining healthy communication with your partner can improve confidence and intimacy significantly. Always use sexual wellness treatments responsibly and only with proper medical supervision for safe and satisfactory results. Thank you

With proper prescribed doses of PDE5 inhibitors like Tadalafil, the penis usually becomes flaccid after ejaculation or when arousal ends. Priapism is very rare, especially at normal doses.
Tadalafil and other PDE5 inhibitors usually do not cause a continuous unwanted erection in most people when taken in proper prescribed doses. They help improve blood flow, but sexual stimulation is still generally needed for erection.
After ejaculation, in the majority of cases: • the penis gradually becomes flaccid again,
• although with tadalafil, because the medicine lasts longer in the body, a person may be able to get another erection more easily for some time afterward.
Priapism (a painful erection lasting more than 4 hours) is a rare side effect, not something that commonly happens with normal medical use.
Risk becomes higher in situations like: • overdose or recreational misuse,
• combining with other erection drugs/injections,
• sickle cell disease or blood disorders,
• cocaine or substance use.
Use only the prescribed dose and seek emergency care if erection lasts more than 4 hours, especially if painful.
