It could be due to unresolved infection. Complete the course of your medication and it may subside. If persists after 7 days, then get a thorough examination from ENT specialist.

Hi, I am Dr. Atul Kumar Nimawat MS ENT. From what you’ve described, it seems like a localized irritation or healing lesion on the tonsil — possibly due to a resolving infection or minor trauma (like from spicy food, coughing, or even frequent clearing of the throat). The red spot and itching sensation can occur during the recovery phase as the mucosa heals. It’s good that the pain has settled after medication. If there’s no fever, difficulty swallowing, or spreading redness, it’s usually not serious.
Next Steps
Continue warm saline gargles, maintain good hydration, and avoid irritants like very hot, spicy, or acidic foods for a few days.
Health Tips
However, if the lesion increases in size, becomes painful again, or you develop other symptoms, do consult an ENT specialist for direct examination.
