Hemorrhoids or piles, are swollen veins in anus and lower rectum. Hemorrhoids can develop inside the rectum (internal hemorrhoids) or under the skin around the anus (external hemorrhoids).
Internal hemorrhoids cause painless bleeding whereas external hemorrhoids can cause pain , itching and swelling .
Clinical examination is the best way to identify.
Colonoscopy is helpful for diagnosing gastrointestinal diseases, such as inflammatory bowel disease, polyps and colon cancer.
