At first, do not worry, it is anxiolytic, for relieving anxiety, not cause heart attack or associated with it
Propranolol is not prescribed to patients of asthma etc
A patient with OCD has anxiety symptoms, to control it, it is prescribed with other medication as antidepressant
Your age is 17 years, weight is adequate as per height, no need to worry
Continue follow up visits with your doctor and discuss your queries
Hi..
Propranolol is generally prescribed for reducing anxiety symptoms caused by ocd but it is not a complete treatment for ocd..
Propranolol is a beta blocker which can cause reduction in heart rate which is generally raised in OCD..
So, no need to worry about a minimal dose of propranolol..
But as of OCD treatment propranolol alone may not work
Next Steps
consult online for further assessment and treatment
Propranolol is a commonly used medicine for anxiety symptoms such as palpitations, tremors, and performance anxiety. It does not cause heart attacks when taken in the prescribed dose. However, since it slows down the heart rate and lowers blood pressure, it should be used cautiously in people who already have asthma, very low blood pressure, or certain heart rhythm issues.
Next Steps
• Continue taking the medication as prescribed by your psychiatrist.
• If you develop symptoms such as dizziness, very slow heartbeat, fainting, or breathing difficulty, inform your doctor immediately.
• Remember that propranolol helps with anxiety symptoms but is not a cure for OCD itself—your doctor may also recommend therapy or other medications for long-term benefit.
Health Tips
Never stop or change the dose suddenly on your own. Always follow your psychiatrist’s advice, and attend regular follow-ups for safe monitoring.
