Query regarding Rabies infection
Respected Doctor, I know I may sound too panicky, but I have lost my father, do not want to lose anyone else. My sister was standing next to a stray dog today who was eating stale chappatis at the time. The wind was blowing very strong as it was about to rain. My urgent concern is that can the saliva from the mouth of the Dog by any chance would have gotten in her eyes? Is there a chance that she can get rabies infection from the dog. Since, the dog went after that, I am sure of the dog. She was wearing a mask, so I know that her nose and mouth were not exposed. I have read that rabies infection can occur if saliva gets into the eyes. I am very worried. I know usually bites are to be concerned about, but respected Doctor, I am very worried. Please advice if rabies vaccine needs to be given or if she is safe. I will be very grateful to you and definitely appreciate your help. Thanking you, Utmost regards.

Rabies occurs when the dog has rabies and if it bites . All dogs don’t have rabies . I’m my opinion you are getting overly concerned. We cannot live day to day life in India if we panic like this . There is more chances of you getting hit by a vehicle than getting infected by dog saliva flying in the air and landing in eyes . Do not get worried . She does not need rabies vaccine .
