QUERY ABOUT SQUINT
I am 25 years old male. I started developing squint when I was 6 years old. I had my squint surgery done when I became 7 years old, before that , for 5 months , doctors were training my eyes through vision therapy. Then , when I become 22 years old, my right eye developed about 15° outward squint again. Yesterday I went for an eye checkup in two different hospitals. One doctor said that my best corrected vision in both eyes is 6/9. While the other doctor said that in my right eye ( which had squint surgery before), since the squint is visible, the retina of the eye may not have developed fully so that eye will have no vision or 6/18 vision at most. I was surprised as many other hospitals like AIIMS, Delhi, Center for sight etc said that my eye has best corrected vision is 6/9.. they did not tell me that because of squint at the age of 6 years I may not have fully developed retina. While I was born at 31 weeks, my eyes were 100% perfect. Plz clear this confusion if I havr good retina!!

in early stages due to squint the affected eye becomes amblyopic which can improve upto the age of 12 or 13 years.now at your age if amblyopia has developed nothing can be done however in your case if bcva is 6/9 in both eyes you need not to worry  .as far as squint is concerned if it is evdent and permanent  .you can get it operated at a good centre or can leave it as such. the centre where improvement was not more than 6/18 .probably have no tried properly.

Diminition of vision without any pathology is known as amblyopia & in common language called lazy eye. Amblyopic eye can only be treated upto 10 yrs with the help of occlusion &,pleoptic treatment which is not available every where, you will have consult eye hospital with well equipped orthopedics & pleoptic department with well trained paramedical staff.Parents  with amblyopic child will have to search such hospital .I have experience of minimum 2000 children getting 6/6 or 6/9 from less than 6/60 vision but diagnosis of amblyopia before 10 yrs is must because there is not much improvement even after dedicated pleoptic for 2-3 months. Lazy eye ultimately lead to divergent squint because it takes anatomical position, our eyes are straight because vision keeps eye straight. Eyes with no Vision or very less vision will always lead to divergent squint, so eyes with divergent squint even after squint surgery again results into divergent squint. Most important point to note here is if amblyopic child vision is restored normal with the help of pleoptic treatment & the operated for Squint surgery it will remain straight & have binocular single Vision through out life & child will never face the problem of divergent squint again in life.
